9 hazardous things your child can swallow

Being working parents can at times take a toll on the lives of our kids, especially when we are running late for work and overlook what our child is eating. As parents, you can stay cautious and alert and considerably reduce the incidents of choking amongst your kids. You should keep the things away from the reach of the children that would prevent your child from swallowing those things. You have to be very vigilant of the places where the children are playing. Following are some of the hazardous things you should keep away from your child:

Acetaminophen-

Make sure that you don’t keep Acetaminophen in the reach of your child as it is a human nature to keep the medicines at a place where it is easily approachable. There have been incidents where the parents unintentionally make use of the Acetaminophen along with over-the-counter without realizing that the combination goods have the inclusion of Acetaminophen.

Iron-

In the past few years many incidents have come up where the children had ingested iron. The iron has become as the main reason for ingestion deaths in the children. Not many people are aware of that the iron being the common household product can be really dangerous for the children. The iron can be easily found in children’s vitamins and its ratio is higher in adult’s vitamins. These are items those are easily drinkable and get easily aspirated. Aspiration can be deadly as it creates a dangerous and deadly chemical reaction.

Button Batteries-

These round shaped batteries can be easily found in the children toys which raise the chances of the children swallowing them and it can result in gastrointestinal problems. With the changing technology more and more items are run by batteries which only have increased the risk of children ingesting them. It has been found in the past that more than fifteen percent of the children those who have ingested these batteries were between the age group of five to twelve.

Ethanol-

Ethanol is commonly found in alcohol and mouthwash. A common adult mouthwash contains around fifteen to twenty-five percent of alcohol and this is the reason that the mouthwashes now come with child proof caps. There are drinks those contain alcohol or those are mixed making use of the other beverages which makes them attractive for the children.

Lead-

You should be aware of the fact that the excess of lead can cause kidney complications, gastrointestinal problems, or can even damage the brain. You can be exposed to lead through dirt, gasoline, plumbing substance, paint or water.

Second Hand Smoke-

According to an environmental organization second hand smoke causes around 250,000 cases of bronchitis or pneumonia which was found in the children under the age group of seventeen. The children those who are open to the second hand smoke have the risk of asthma and middle ear complications. Try to avoid smoking while you are home or you are traveling in the car.

Poisonous Plants-

The Poinsettia can cause more damage to both throat and mouth and there are other plants that can prove dangerous if ingested. These plants include- Rhododendron and Azalea can cause nausea, vomiting. Yew is considered to be toxic than berries and cause death, and Lily of the valley directly affects the heart beats. It would be better to keep these plants away from the reach of the children to avoid any ingestion of these plants.

Carbon Monoxide-

Carbon Monoxide gas is considered to be a poisonous gas and is harmful for the human body. In America alone, the gas claims over two hundred lives every year and the gas does not have any particular smell or color. It is said to be that the people are more exposed to this dangerous gas in the winter season.
