Insuring your child’s wellbeing during winter time

Winters are here again. Some prefer to stay at home with their family and some just love to go out for vacations. Experts are of the view that the cold air outside can really damage your child’s skin. It is not just the air that annoys, but some children have allergies to the winter clothing which can sometimes lead to skin irritation. Following is some information about how to keep your child safe during the winter time-

Hypothermia-

Hypothermia is caused when the child’s body temperature drops below the normal body temperature. You have to make sure that your child is properly wearing warm clothing when your child is playing outside in the cold. You should be aware of the signs and symptoms of hypothermia. If you feel that your child is hypothermic then you should seek medical assistance. Following are some of the symptoms of hypothermia-

* Continuous Shivering

* Unclear vision

* Not able to speak properly

* Feeling unconscious

Winter Clothing-

You have to be very careful about choosing the winter clothing for your children. If your child is going out then make sure that your child is properly wearing the warm clothes. It would be a smart choice to prefer the woolens instead of the cotton clothes for the winter time. You can help your child to stay warm with sweaters, warm socks, gloves, and boots. At the time of sleeping make sure that the blanket is covered till the chest level only exposing the face.

Frostbite-

Frostbite is caused due to the exposure to the low temperatures and the outer tissue of the skin becomes frozen. It is commonly noticed on fingers, ears, nose, the child complains of burning of the skin and numbness. Offer your child something warm to drink. Make sure to warm the frostbite portion and you can make use of the hot cloth to use it on the fingers, nose, or ears etc. Make sure to call for the medical assistance if the numbness does not disappear after a few minutes of time. Make sure that you don’t allow your child to play outdoors in the cold.

Winter Sports and various other activities-

Ice Skating- Yes winter time is a fun time for the children but make sure to take safety measures to avoid any accident. The following are some of the safety tips-

* Don’t allow your child to skate during the night time.

* Ensure that your child is skating with a group of people and never let your child to skate alone.

* Guide your child to skate on the approved places. Also do check out the sign boards or any other instructions.

* You should make sure that your child wears all the safety gear while ice-skating.

Snowmobiling-

* You should not make use of the snowmobile for pulling the sleds.

* Make your child wear goggles and safety helmet.

* Make sure that your child doesn’t drive at faster speeds.

* You should not allow your child to snowmobile during night time.
