Is your child ready to swim?
Teaching your child to swim can prove a very helpful method in strengthening your relationship with your child and moreover, it is also the best way to teach them. But on the other hand, there are still some safety questions that circulate around allowance of the infants for swimming classes.
Danger of exposure to the infections-
It can be really risky for the little infant to get into the swimming pools as it can pollute the swimming pool water. The reason is that the child is not aware as they are not toilet trained and as a result of this they defecate in the swimming pool. Just in case the child has any parasites, they will be spread in the pool water and the chances of having infections increases. But there should be necessary steps taken to stop this. Proper precautionary measures should be taken and no child who is suffering from diarrhea should be granted permission to enter the swimming pool. If the child is not toilet trained then the parents should make the child wear plastic pants.
Risk of complications regarding the ears-
The ear complications can be stopped by putting some plastic tubes in the ear. This will equalize the pressure that is being put on both the ears and helps in transferring the water to go by the ear canal to the middle ear. Most of the people have a wrong illusion that due to the water, there is risk of frequent ear infections. But if it is the case then you should better discontinue the swimming classes.
Low levels of blood sodium-
In the past there have been instances where the infant swimmers have faced a situation of low level of blood sodium. It is because the child has ingested a large amount of water and it has eventually made the blood thinner. But it is considered to be a very unusual position even for the infant swimmers. The reason it felt unusual because it can only take place when somebody has forcibly immersed the infant.
It has been also seen that there are probabilities that the acidity factor of the pool can result in the erosion of tooth enamel. But on the other hand the odds are less because it can only happen if the infant is in the water for a considerable amount of time.
What should you do? -
You should not keep high expectations from your child to become a good swimmer as soon as the swimming classes get over as it will not be the case. You don’t have to be worried about any illness or sickness when the water of the swimming pool is clean. But you have to be cautious about the programs that accentuate submersions.
Yes, you and your child can have a very good time in the swimming classes but you have to be very careful and vigilant while your child is in the water.
