Maintaining safety while your child is in the bathtub

According to a data provided by National Safety Council, more than fifty percent domestic mishaps take place in the bathroom. Safety experts consider bathroom as the most unsafe room in the house, especially for small children when left alone.

Inquisitive children

Children have habit of looking and searching beneath the bathroom sinks and bathroom storerooms, which often puts them in a trouble as the presence of various cleaning products and different hygiene items in bathroom increases the risk of ingestion, of these items by the children. Also, the floor material of the bathroom can be slippery which could hurt the child, thus it is advisable to use either textured tiles or smooth tiles.

According to doctors, the children are at risk of becoming unwell or hurting themselves when they come in contact with various bathroom products like creams, electronic products, lotions, moisturizers and other make-up products. As parents, you should be aware of the fact that it can take place with the child of any age group and can result in serious complications. You can stay alert and act cautiously by keeping the harmful items out of the reach of a child.

Avoiding the bathroom injuries-

Following are some of the points that you can put into use for averting the injuries in the bathroom-

* You can install different types of non slippery flooring that would protect your child from slipping. You can also place soft covers on the faucet to protect your child from falling.

* You must keep the perfumes, after shave lotions, mouthwash and razor blades away from the reach of your child.

* When you are in the bathroom and your child is in the bathtub you have to be very cautious. Don’t desert your child for a single moment, as there is a risk that your child can drown itself. Just in case you have to go somewhere when you are giving bath to your child, then you can carry your child along with you.

* Make sure that you don’t set the temperature of the water heater more than 12 degrees F. This way you will protect your child from getting hurt or burned in the bathroom.

* Keep the electrical equipments like hair dryer in the safety lockers, as reduces the chances of any electric shock. If you really want to have electric equipment in the bathroom then you should put in special sockets in the wall (preferably at a height), which considerably reduces the danger of receiving any shock.

* You can arrange the things in the closets or cabinets; this will keep the things away from the reach of the child. You should take proper care while your child is in the bathtub.
