Menaces of Summer-time
Summertime is the time when everybody is in the mood of enjoying different sports like swimming in the pool or going for outdoor camping with the family members/friends. Children often get themselves into trouble with all these outdoor activities. Following are some of the tips to keep your child safe from the hazards of summer-
Avoiding Swimmer’s ear-
In the summertime everybody wants to go swimming but there is a disorder which is known as Swimmer’s ear that results in swelling of the ear canal and causes terrible pain. When the water gets in the ear and carries elements of fungus along with it, it causes swimmers’ ear. The infection is caused when the water is left in the in the ear and the inside layer of the canal gets moist.
You can make use of the ear drops after your child has done swimming, this will help in preventing your child from swimmer’s ear. This disorder can also be caused when you are taking bath or when you regularly wash your hair.
Gardening risks-
You have to be cautious from the lawn mower and you should try to keep your child away from it. Your child can also accidentally get hurt by the weed trimmers or clippers which have sharp edges. It would be better to make sure that no heavy electronic equipment or any other dangerous material is left within the reach of the child. Don’t desert your child in the presence of any pet especially if the pet is sleeping or eating.
If your child has been bitten by some animal then properly wash the wound and immediately inform the health department. You should educate your child about the water safety measures. Make sure that you never leave your child near the water.
Jellyfish Sting-
If you are having a lovely time at the beach then the jellyfish sting can really play a spoilsport. You should always follow the instructions at the beach to keep away from the jellyfish, polluted water, and any other sea creatures. Just in case your child is stung then make use of the sand to rub that area to prevent the stinging cells from getting active. You can also make use of the vinegar at the infected area to decrease the affect on the skin.
Sprains-
If your child is suffering from sprain then make sure that he/she takes complete rest and don’t let your child lift any heavy item. You can pack crushed ice in a cloth and place on the sprained area for a maximum of twenty minutes. When you have applied ice on the sprained area, make your child to rest on the bed and elevate the sprained leg.
Sun tan-
During summertime, children face the risk of suffering from skin cancer with over exposure from sun, as their skin is delicate. It would be better to apply some sunscreen whenever your child goes out. The sun rays are more risky from ten in the morning and three in the evening. There are even some medications that make your child’s skin more sensitive to the sun, so it would be better to first consult your physician just in case you are planning to start any such medication.
