What are the summertime safety measures for your children?
For young children summertime means having lots of enjoyment and fun times. But with all this fun and enjoyment there is some additional risk of bee stings, sunburn, and poison ivy. Summertime also brings various outdoor mishaps such as- getting cuts while playing, drowning in the pool, broken bones etc. Following are some of the summertime safety measures that you should follow-
Pool safety measures-
* Preferably surround the pool from all sides with the strong high fence.
* If your child is playing near the pool then you should never desert your child alone even for a single moment. This is how you can save your child from getting injured.
* As parents you should be aware of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other safety measures when your child is playing in the pool.
* You should not make use of floaties. They are not safe and can not be used in place of much secured life vests.
* Make sure that you keep the safety equipments and a telephone nearby and within easy reach whenever your child is playing in the pool.
Safety measures while traveling-
* When you are traveling you should carry water, packed snacks, first aid box, and do remember to keep pain relief medicines with you.
* You should buckle up the seat belts of your car when you are traveling.
* It would be good to make regular stoppage while traveling.
* Let your child carry his/her favorite video games or dolls just to be entertained.
* It would always be better that you put your child in the back seat while traveling as it saves your child from the head on crash.
While the child is exposed to the sun-
* You should properly dress your child with cotton clothes that would cover their legs and arms properly.
* If your child is below the age of six then he/she should not be kept in the direct sun.
* It would be better that you protect your child from the sun rays from ten in the morning and four in the evening. As at this time the sun rays are considered to be the strongest.
Bug Safety-
* You should not dress your child in bright clothes.
* Avoid using perfumed soaps or any hair sprays.
* You should keep your child away from where the insects gather like exposed food and stagnant pool water.
Staying safe from the dog bites-
* You should educate your child not to kick or make any strange signals which will irritate the dog. Guide them to stand motionless and face the dog and subsequently make slow moves away from the dog.
* Make sure that you don’t leave your child near the dog.
* If you are planning to have a pet in your house then wait until the time your child becomes mature enough to take care of the dog.
* Educate your child with the safety measures like never to approach an unknown dog.
* It would be better that you immediately consult your physician if your child has been bitten by a dog.
