How can you deal with your depression?

Depression is major health syndrome that needs proper care and attention in order to get rid of it and if ignored, this disorder can have harmful effects on its patient. People suffering from depressed state of mind need to fight with their condition instead of giving up on it, as it will slowly drain their energy, joyfulness, their zest to live and leave them feeling no better. While there is always medication and professional help for dealing with depression, people can also tackle feeling of misery on their own.

The start should always be from things you like and love to do. Process of recovery from depression often means building yourself from scratch and there is nothing better than starting from finding who you are. Point down things you love to do, love to read, your favorite activities and favorite happy song. Once you have your basic data, go out play every sport you love, shop a little, spend time with your friends, read your favorite author’s book, join your kind of dance classes or follow your favorite hobby. Make yourself feel special by pampering yourself with little things like, getting a pet, dancing to loud music, pen downs things you like in yourself, watch happy movies, start writing journals, if you like painting then start drawing again or you like literature then go watch a play.

Rule of recovery from depression is to divert depressed mind’s attention from the very feeling of nothingness and numbness, so as to build positive perception towards life.

When you are in a badly-gone-wrong state of misery, it is highly important to not to stay alone. It is always difficult to fight a feeling of pain on your won, unless you have someone to talk to and hold on to when feeling a surge of emotional outbursts. Facing depression alone often leads to failure and in extreme cases a suicidal attempt.

Build up communication with your close ones, share everything that is bothering you, if things are too personal or embarrassing to share with friends or family then take help from professional listeners, join a social group and listen and talk with people gong through same condition and do not let your social circle or activities die down. Staying aloof is exactly opposite to what fight depression is, it’s more or less a suicidal step.

Do not ignore your 8 hours of sleep, as a tired mind can never fight or deal with any anxiety, pressure or despair. Go out for jogging, walks or exercise in parks. Yoga or aerobics can help you feel fit and eventually better about yourself. Meditation, deep breathing exercises also reduce stress, work pressure, too much of thoughts and psychological disturbance to a great level.

Lastly, you can never fight any kind of depression unless your body is fuelled with positive food. Healthy mind always thinks positive and happy, which is why it is important to control the eating habit when tackling depression. Don’t ignore your breakfast or meals; say a no-no to too much caffeine, alcohol and sugar. Focus more on vitamin and omega-3 fatty acid intake.
The key to any recovery process from a state of depression is the zeal to get better and to love life again. Dealing with depression is a difficult task and needs a positive approach every day.
