What are the signs and causes of Dysthymia
Dysthymia is not believed to be a severe problem, but it is definitely one of the many varieties of Depression which lasts for a longer duration than others. It generally starts off in the initial stages and the diagnosis is done when the patient is in a depressive mood and continues for more than two years for the adult patients and about one year for the children or adolescents showing the following signs-
* Feeling of despair.
* Experiencing eating disorders.
* Feeling restlessness.
* Getting tired almost immediately.
* Low self-confidence.
* Inability to make quick decisions.
It has been noticed that if you are suffering from Dysthymic disorder you can also experience different episodes of depression. In a particular condition, if you are suffering from both Depression and Dysthymia, then you are suffering from double depression. You are able to perform adequately but you will not be happy and contented. Although you can successfully maintain your jobs and relationships but it might get difficult for you to make continual progress in your life.
Many physicians believe that this type of chronic depression is associated to the changes that take place in the human brain containing serotonin. Serotonin is the chemical that helps the human brain in dealing with different sentiments. If you are dealing with stress, different prescriptions or any kind of sickness, then there are chances that these could lead to Dysthymia.
When you don’t have enough energy or self-esteem left in you, then most of the times you have to face failures in your life. You tend to create a negative attitude that nothing would ever change as you give up any efforts towards making the things better. Dysthymia can be controlled by antidepressant prescription and psychotherapy. The medication helps you revitalize your lost energy and psychotherapy assists in finding new ways to make your life better and improved one.
Psychotherapy would not be easy as you might not be ready to make any changes in your life. If your family or near and dear ones are with you throughout the treatment, you would benefit from their support to get the required results, out of your treatment of Dysthymia.
