5 etiquette tips parents should make sure their kids know
There is no doubt that ‘actions speak louder than words’, which is why it is duty of every parent that they guide their children on right attitude and etiquette. Good manners can be inculcated in a child through right teaching by parents, as young kids often look up to their elders for learning new things.
Given below are some important etiquette tips that could help parents in teaching good manners and behavior to their kids:
* Teach your children that every time they meet someone they should greet the person graciously. Maintaining an eye contact is also very significant etiquette that your child should learn. Greet you child with his or her name and ask them to do the same when they meet someone in school or outside home. Make sure that your child pays respect and makes use of Mr., Mrs. or Ms before taking any adult’s name.
* Shaking hands is also one of the very important aspects of good behavior. Instruct your child to put forward his right hand every time he meets someone. Practice with your child to help them learn right way to shake hands.
* Make your child familiar with words like ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’. Let them know that use of these words in a conversation project that they have manners/etiquettes and the other person feels good to talk with you. Make your child understand the significance of these two words.
* Teach your child the importance of the phrase ‘Excuse Me’. Tell them to use it when they are interested in leaving the group, when they wish to interfere between two people and when they need to ask a question.
* It is considered bad manners when your children interfere in the conversation of two people. Teach your child that when two people are having a conversation, interfering without permission is wrong thing to do. Tell him that he has something to say then he should wait for a break in the conversation. You can make use of the finger to indicate that you have listened to what your child wanted to say and he/she will be heard in a moment, but make sure that you do give attention towards your child. Teach them that if they really need to say something in between an ongoing conversation they can use for words like ‘might I say something’.
Being parents you have to make sure that your children behave well and display good etiquettes, so that they grow up to be a responsible, polite and well mannered person.
