Helping your child to solve speech problems

Often an individual’s are judged through their speaking style and use of words. Its how you talk makes you illiterate or intellectual. Teaching a child importance of right speech helps him grow as a confident and strong individual.

Make sure that you don’t allow your child to make use of slang words as it takes away the authenticity. Don’t even allow your child to use slang while having normal conversation or even at home and if they do tell them again and again that they should not. Your child will have to face the criticism that he/she is not using the correct grammar. There are certain words that should not be used in the common conversation. One day when your child will grow up and make a good impression in front of their friends and boss, you will be the one they will be thanking for sure.

Profanity stays unpleasant and its usage will project that your child does not have adequate knowledge of the vocabulary. If your child continuously makes use of profanity in his/her conversation, you should teach your child to improve his/her vocabulary to search for, learn and make use of better words. The best thing is to guide your child to make use of the words that would replace the profane wordings. In order to make your child stop using the profane wordings you can be a little creative and can organize a game with your child where the winner would be the one who can make use of more new/unique words that can be put into use to replace a profane wordings.

When your child constantly says, “Me and Jodie” or “Me and Sarah”, always correct your child by telling him/her that it should be “I and Jodie” or “I and Sarah”. When your child says, “Can I have something to drink?”, you should let him/her know that this phrase actually means that your child is not asking for the consent, but actually asking if they are capable of drinking or not. They should be told that the correct method is to ask “May I have something to drink?”. You have to put an extra effort before your child actually learns it perfectly to use in his/her everyday conversation. But the extra effort that you will be putting will be good for your child because when you will be visiting some of your relatives your child will ask May I have a glass of water?

Being parents, it becomes your duty to teach your child to make use of proper tenses to improve their language and vocabulary.
